Broken In
I purchased this Sony DVD-RW DW Q30A drive a year back. The drive has been working perfectly, until now, that is....
After assembling a new PC, I plugged in this drive, and installed WinXP. But after the installation, the drive simply fails to recognize any CD or DVD, and when I try to access the drive, Explorer hangs. I delved into the registry, to delete the upper filter and the lower filters in a certain key in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class as mentioned in Digit Fast Track to Upgrading your PC. But I realised that the upper filter and lower filter dont exist!!!
I removed the drive and plugged it again. I even disabled it from Device Manager and installed it again, but to no avail.
The strange thing is that this drive works perfectly under mu ubuntu Dapper and SLAX.
What the hell is Windows doing this crap to my drive??
Please help me out with this one, folks.
