dvd drive????

i have a compaq dvd drive bought in 2000 it plays cds but not dvd's.
In windows Me it shows that it is a cd drive while in XP it shows that it's a dvd drive
what to do??

Or else try to flash the BIOS of both the motherboard and the DVD-ROM to the latest version. Then I think this will be detected properly. You can get the BIOS on your manufacturer's website. Be sure to follow the instructions word for word as they advised. And also know exactly what you are doing.

Otherwise buy a new Sony DVD-ROM DDU 1615 costing around Rs.1250.
