Just installed Vista Ultimate twice on my laptop (CQ45-137tx) and the DVD Writer failed to show up in the Device Manager. I tried to locate the filter keys for the device in registry, but they were never there because the device itself has not been detected by Vista. I installed Vista using the same drive. Can't even find out the model of the drive as Vista does not detect it and the BIOS does not display the model either.

Can anybody please let me know of any way to sort this out. Thank you.

May be your hardware is not detected. Do the following:

1. Open up your cabinet
2. Unhook the drive and plug it back in and restart

It should be detected as a new hardware. If it is not then you should manually try to detect it.

Or go to *support.microsoft.com/kb/314096
