configuring network settings in linux through LAN card

    I have p3 system with a LAN card
    i have cable net connection
    i 'm able to use it in win XP but not in LINUX
    which is my second OS
    can any one tell me how do i connect to internet in LINUX
    the LINUX is RED HAT LINUX 9.0

    check the sticky on configuring dataone in this forum.perhaps it will help.U may need to set ur IP address G/W mask etc either DHCP or static

    i did all that but there is no effect
    it either says connection is refused to ...
    or
    says that cannot connect ...

    Post the output of "ifconfig eth0". The command needs to be run as root.
