cannot send via bluetooth

I have a Nokia 6270. Wen i tried to send files larger than 1mb or so from another handset to my handset, the transfer always failed. A friend said that if the free internal memory of the phone is too low, eventhough there may be a lot of free space in the memory card, i will not be able to upload anything larger than the size of the free internal memory. That the files must pass through the handset internal memory first even when it is going to be saved in the external memory card. Is this true? Please help.

Yes that is true. If there is any such option, choose to store messages on memory card. Find it in message settigns. If its not present, use MSDriveE google for it. It allows storing the messages on card.
