Can i upgrade to 2.8?

I have an Asus P4V533-MX(Intel) Mobo. Presently my processor is intel 2ghz. In the installation manual book it is mentioned that it is upgradable to 2.8 ghz. However my hardware vendor told me that it can only be upgraded to 2.4 ghz. Pls tell me which one is true.

When asus manual says then there is no probs...... u can go ahead blindly for upgradation upto 2.8Ghz
