hey guys,
i need to buy a ups for my desktop in case of shortage of electricity. Backup of 2-3 hrs will be sufficient. I am kind of tight on budget so i m not going for higher backup. SO plz suggest me some good ups i can choose from and their prices. i dont want to spend more than 3K for it. let me know if there is any ups in this range. Even if the ups is out of budget let me know.
My config is :
Intel i5 2500
Intel DH67BL
ATI 6950 1GB
Corsair 550W
1 TB hard disk
4GB RAM

2-3 hours of back up is a lot to ask of a UPS.

I would suggest you a Home Inverter such as APC Inverter 800VA which is however not going to give you instant switch over in case of a power cut.
I mean your PC will go off in a power cut as there is a small lag for the inverter to power on. Also this is very expensive.

I have a 1.1KVA APC UPS (not inverter) for a similar rig as yours. Never checked how much backup it gives but i think it is safe to assume 15min. PRICE: INR 4500

Lower variants are: 800VA, 650VA

yeah a UPS means Uninterrupted Power Supply. No lag.

However I have heard some inverters are as good as a UPS but I havent come across any.

That 1.1 wont give you too many hours of usage.

You should definitely get a UPS. Power spikes and surges can kill some sensitive components. My PC died that way.

Why do you need 2-3hours?

A UPS is generally used so that you can save your work and shut down the system properly. Thus preventing any damage.
It gives you some time to work too but I dont know how much time a 1.1 or 800 or even 650VA gives. That also depends on your PC configuration.

i am going offline now. Wait for others for their inputs. Good Luck.

Meanwhile check these links:

Inverter: Back-UPS BI - Product Information

I have personally used both of the them (ones i have mentioned in prev post)

hey i checked on primeabgb APC Back-UPS Rs. 1100VA 660 Watts/1100 VA
will it be enough?

Its a little confusing what you typed there.

Talking about the APC 1100KVA/600W UPS right. That should be around INR 4500. As I said I have the same one.

Its a heavy unit. Buy it locally to avoid huge shipping charges.

sorry i just confused two things
i wanted to ask u about the 600VA variant of the ups
will that be enough
bcoz i dont want to spend much money on it
if 600VA can do it i woldnt want to spend extra cash on 1.1KVA variant

Sorry bro I dont have that much knowledge about the power requirements of PCs.

I think that one translates to around 360W (600VA) under full load. The calculations are a little complicated but multiply VA x 0.6 = Wattage.

If 350-400W is sufficient for your PC then this UPS should do for you.

600VA APC shouldn't cost more than 2200. & won't offer anything over 3-4min backup. it is a new unit. the old APC 650VA will cost 2800 & backup will be marginally higher. try checking Numeric 800VA UPS. should be within your budget.

Yeah get that 800VA one. Should give you a max power draw of 480W.

[I hope you know just coz your PSU says 550W doesnt mean it draws that much all the time]
