Hi...

I need to buy a desktop PC within a hard limit of 48000 INR. I'm in delhi for 2 months, and till that time PC will be with me. After that I'll shift it to my home @ lucknow...

I want the PC for occasional gaming. (Not too high end... Mostly AOC) The main use is that I want it to solve the dual purpose of a good sound system and a TV. So I need pereferably a 19'' monitor... I dont know whether these features can be packed into 48k or not... So guys help plz!!!

I've been given the following price by a vendor in Nehru place!!!

INTEL PIV 3.0GHZ 800 FSB WITH HT USING INTEL 915 GAV WITH ON BOARD AGP,SOUND & LAN,

2 X 256 DDR 400 MHZ,

120 GB 7200RPM SATA 150MBPS,

COMBO DRIVE,

1.44 HDD

LOGITECH OPTICAL COMBO,

17" SAMSUNG MONITOR (Non Flat).

600VA MICROTEK OFFLINE UPS WITH 1 SMF BATTERY

MACHINE TO BE HOUSED IN PIV ATX SERVER CABINET WITH 300 W SMPS USING ADDITIONAL COOLING FAN

36,500 WITH ONE YR CARRY IN WARRANTY WITHOUT STANDBY's

Howz the price? The vendor is not ready to bargain... Now I want to go for a good Sound system, TV tuner and better Monitor... What can I do? And which graphics card can I go for? There is only 12k left with this configuration.... :( :(

check this :

the person has a better config to urs and that too at 35 K. Since ur budget is higher you could go in for the Raedon 9600Pro graphics card and use the built in sound card of the mobo specified. SInce this is the a dealer tell him to give you this config and see what price he comes up with.

better if U buy it from Lucknow, everything U need is also available with the compleate price difference to be Rs 1200

I m from Lucknow too, where R u from in Lucknow

Also go for an Athlon64 system insted of Prescott with 915G, & do not go for onboard gfx, better if U get a GeFOrce FX 5900XT or Radeon 9600 Pro

Already read that configuration....

Please suggest me a configuration with Athlon!!!

What is socket 754 and 939? Related to IEEE Floating point standard???

And saurav, I stay in Viram Khand, Gomti Nagar... What abt u? Can u tell me some good assembler in lko, who is comfortable with Athlon machines... That would really help me a lot...

Hey guyz, this is PC enquiry version 0.2!!! :D

I'm going with Athlon 64 3000+ (Socket 754) But i'm still confused abt the board.... (939 was very costly!!! Around 16.5k for 3000+ and MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum :( :( )

Guys suggest me a motheboard and a cheap graphics card to go with it.... K8N or K8V??? a constraint is gud onboard sound... Plz get me out of misery, i cant take it any more.... :( :(

I want to have a really gud sound... need to play dvd movies and gud music... so should i go for a separate sound card like creative audigy? how much will it cost, coz im planning to buy creative inspire 6600 (arnd rs4000) speakers.... that actually creates more confusion in the mobo coz i feel like staying with the onboard sound.... will it waste my speakers??? :( :(

my config...
athlon 64 3000+
k8n /k8v mobo
512 mb ddr400 (or 2*256 ??? :( :( )
120gb sata (what abt 160gb pata???)
19'' flat monitor
compro tv tuner card
ms internet keyboard
ms optical mouse
creative inspire 6600
motorola 56kbps
dvd combo (liteon or sony???)
a graphics card (what the hell!!!! :( :( :( )

i think you should go for 160 pata instead of 120 sata as the performance of sata is not that great...

also, you cant connect ur hard disk on other pc's not having sata support

i think compro videomate has better reception than the pinnacle pctv plus...one of my friend has it...works gr8!!!!

instead of going for a cheap graphics card around 2k....dont go for a graphics card at all...some onboard solutions are good enough if not better...

Yes, the performance advantage of SATA is just over 4.5%-6.5%. (The price diff. is around 1000rupees)

My recent config is intel 915GAV, PIV 3.0GHz 1MB cache 800FSB, 512MB 400MHz DDR, 160GB SATA 7200rpm Seagate, Samsung 15" SyncMaster (LCD), TVS Gold Mechanical KBD, Logitech Optical, APC UPS, DVD ROM, CD RW, Creative SBS 370 2.1.

This cost around 48ks. Almost similar to ur config but for the monitor, which is 13.6k. There u add ur Graphic card.

But on 915 board only a PCI Express slot is available, so you have to go for a pricey graphic card.

If it is ok, then you can go for 865 and an AGP.

The 915 is not so popular among consumers because it features only one parallel IDE (only two parallel IDEs can be connected at a time).
It does not have AGP, instead it has PCI Express, which while upgrading further increases the cost.

And also, the SMPS should provide 24pin (12x2)power supply. If you use SATA, the SMPS should also provide SATA power supply.

But once you find the right combination, the installation is a breeze.
