If I buy a new computer which should I opt - Branded or Assembled? Are Branded computers cheaper? If so, how they are providing it cheap?

Branded ones have a support advantage apart from OEM software in it. I'd go for an assembled one since I've learnt to take care of my system by now. ANd an assembled one is generally much cheaper and better in performance than a branded one.

If its a desktop, assembled for sure! You can customise it to your needs/budget, its cheaper, maintenance is easier if you do things on your own like some of us ;)

If know little basics about computers and its components such as a processor
motherboard, etc or even if you read every page of DIGIT, then you should
go for an assembled pc....
and yes, assembled PC's are cheaper...

well yes. assembled anyday. if you know your city(like SP road in bangalore), you can even assemble a pc yourself at a fraction of the cost of the branded one. but better be well informed before you make your choice of components because incompatibility is a big problem

Yaar, Can someone who has assembled before tell me whether you physically set up the stuff yourself, and if that is difficult/dangerous?

Sykora

I see right through you.
I set my own Computer up ie bought the parts and put it together. If you're stupid, it is dangerous. Not if you RTFM :)

computer assembling is so easy go on googling for tutorials with pictures.
they are so easy that nothing fits wrong,
the sockets in computer parts are one way only u cant fit them in
wrong way.only thing to learn is jumper setting of harddisk and dvdrom.

Assembled will be the way to go, if you know about computers and what to buy otherwise there are chances of getting wrong config. That's what happened to me. I got some unneeded accessories. And those which I needed were underpowered.
