I had ordered the Ubuntu 8.04 CD which arrived today. I was overjoyed to learn that there was an option to install the OS directly by skipping the Live CD feature (for people with 256MB of RAM). When I booted from the CD I selected the option to directly install the OS, upon which the Ubuntu logo appeared with a black status bar below in which an orange rectangle scrolled left and right for some time and then the progress bar slowly started filling with orange colour. After completing 100%, I just get a blank black screen and then, that's it. Nothing happens after that. The PC just keeps showing a blank screen. I tried selecting the Live CD option after rebooting and the exact same thing happens. I selected the check CD option and the CD turned out to have zero errors. What's gone wrong?!:mad::(

During ubuntu installation the screen turns black occasionally, some kinda power saving feature i guess... But in your case it seems the installation itself doesn't start, rite?

Let the linux gurus take a look and guide u :)
