Which is the best TV tuner card which will allow me to view all channels.

I want to capture video in DVD & SVCD Resoltions.

It should also have support for IUVcr software which allows to capture
video at DVD , SVCD , VCD , Custom Resolutions and in Divx/Xvid + Mp3
Avi file.

I was actually going for compro one
but this is the review @ digit-life.com has to say

Highs
 Excellent build quality
 Perfect audio and video quality
 High sensitivity both in TV and FM modes
 Good screening (no pickups and noise noticed)
 Connection to the sound card's AUX-in
 Deinterlacing
 Noise Removal and Video Smoothing
 Handy software
Compro POWER UP SCHEDULING (PC starts up for recording and turns off on its completion)
 Channel Surf audio mode
 Multifunctional remote control
 Rich accessory pack
 Quick support service

Lows
 The "01 or 03 channel" problem
 Snapshot is not that convenient in use
 mp3 is not fully supported [this is troubling me a lot]
 no MPEG4 support (in case of the software supplied)
 audio options in the ComproDVD are not available

Request to compro card users
All those having the compro card please download the IU Vcr Software
and check while capturing video does it capture divx/xvid video with mp3
audio in a avi file.

As this is the software which i will using for capturing video.

Waiting for your replies.

I got a Pinnacle PCTV Stereo TV Tuner card, & use Media Portal for recording of TV in DivX format with 3 MB bitrate,or sometimes 4 MB, single pass, try that

ChrisTV crashed a lot for me, so skipped it

In IU Vcr there is a place where we can select the Codec and the output
file i actually have used the proggie a long time ago at my bro's place.

There is a place where we can select codecs as we select it in virtual dub.

and just when the tv channel is playing in the backgroung hit the record
button it records whatever we watch on pressing stop it stops the recording.

Hope you find the codec selection screen.

MediaPortal can be downloaded from SourceForge here:

*mediaportal.sourceforge.net/

gx pointed me to MediaPortal and except with a configuration problem with the PCTV Stereo remote, its the best I've seen. Heck, it even looks and works like a Windows MCE terminal, so all the more better. Slightly resource hungry proggy though, but works like a charm if you're not particular about timeshifting.

well lets c how media portal works on my card

downloading it rite now

so is there any configuration probs in it

coz some channels dun come clearly in christv and vision coz of the poor cable signal strength i suppose

i cant do anything abt this coz we dun even pay for 1 line and have cut into 4 lines - 2 for pc and 2 for tvs

all the starting channels and the ending channels abt 5 each are not appearing clearly

but the good thing is the first 5 and the last 5 are not noteworthy channels

except DD where i suppose INDIA PAK will come

I am using a Pinnacle PCTV Stereo and there are absolutely no problems with it. Like I said, works like a charm. I'm still having small configuration problems with the PCTV remote, and I hope gx can answer as to how he configured his remote. But apart from that, its perfect. The card was automatically detected for me and once you hit Autotune, it automatically searches for each channel and asks you to name and store it. Of course, it doesn't seem to able to eliminate duplicate stations like the PCTV Vision software, so that part you gotta take care of yourself and also it scans so fast that it sometimes skips a few channels and I had to run to the TV and note down the frequency of the channel and then enter it manually for some channels. But hey, for something that's free, encodes in DivX and is a total media center solution, its positively GREAT!
I've paid just for one connection, spliced it for 2 TVs and one PC, so I'm having the same problem with the start and end channels, but since I was having the same problem even before splicing it and since they were useless channels anyway, I skipped them.

@gxsaurav: Please, could you post on how you've configured the serial IR remote for the PCTV Stereo?

there is a remote plugin available for PCTV stereo remote on the media portal forums, download & copy the code to your profiles.ini files in remote installation folder, I even uninstalled the PCTV Vision software after configuring it, only the remote is installed

U also got the fast scan problem, it skipped star movies & axn for me, I mean it scanned it & showed to me when it was auto scanning but it didn't saved them as a channel, i had to manually check which frequence they were coming at, like here, Star Movies comes after M TV so I incresed the frequency slowly & got to star movies

is your remote not working at all or some buttons are not working, remember, the remote is made for PCTV Vision app, so all the buttons won't work in Media Portal

Hey, when we got a 3 GHz CPU at our disposal, resource hungry is nothing, besides when I watch TV, I don't work on computer for computer stuff, like mail or chat

I had a bad experience with PCTV , it had captured issues from composite sources , and when i actually browsed through the company forums , there were a lot of people's who had the same problem as mine, i dont know whether they still have the same issue or not .
I used to do Video Editing and stuff , for Marriage , anniverseries etc , and i had a bad exp with it , it actually used to capture the immage from external sources like VCR etc , but when played back , it completed a 30 min clip in 25 -20 mins .
I wasted days on it and could not get any answers , if anyone got any solution to this , i would like to know them ,
