I use both AVG and Avast free editions.
    I say Avast is better.
Why go for professional editions when the security is the same????

Avast is better coz it has a more comprehensive real time scanner and besided AVG free has automatic healing disabled

AVG=crap...having it and not having it doesnt make any difference
avast free ed= ok...may be a good free option, better than AVG for sure
avast pro= superb, light on resopurces, yet grt scanning and script blocker for IE
AVG pro=never tried, nor will ;)

There is absolutely NO difference in the detection rates of Avast Free and Avast Pro. The inly diff is the script blocker and some scheduling features.. Which dont matter much. And yeah, AVG is CR@P..

Avast ofcourse, there's no much difference between free and professional edition. You can always crack the free version if you want the professional version and dont want to pay for it.

ppl it cannot be said that any antivirus is not foolproof. it only play an important role only in protecting your pc and hence this quest for which is a better solution cannot be fought over. Aromor you PC the best posssible way. Use an Anti Virus Solution + Anti Spyware Solution + Firewall. Its should help u on the long run. but if a hacker wants to still gain access he can.

Between the 2, avast is better. But you should use an additional on-demand scanner like Kaspersky or BitDefender along with it.

avast! for me too..though it needs a progress bar. Its skinnability rocks. I wish it also had a firewall of its own, since it does not have much support for ZA :-(

looks like ppl r goin my way! I have posted 3 replies in favour of avast in this very forum in last 2 weeks. I think it is simply great as it is free of cost. And yes, may be now everybody will stop asking for antiiruses.
