Today I found a gr8 utility to tweak some Hidden settings, and to do some other tasks for avast! anti-virus.
Following is a list of its features:
U can d/l it from here.FUNCTIONS:
1. avast! Status Info
Shows important info about avast! antivirus. This info can be also dumped into txt log file for easier troubleshooting.
2. avast! Tweaker
avast! Tweaker gives you ability to change hidden settings in avast! Antivirus.
Please note that many of tweaks that are missing in current AEC 1.6.291 are now available in avast! 4.6.691 itself! (Program Settings...)
Show virus tag on virus detection
Enables or disables display of tag on virus detection.
This is the red and yellow square box that appears in the bottom right corner when virus is detected.
(default is checked)
Web Shield Power Mode
Enabling this feature forces avast! Web Shield provider to scan HTTP traffic from all programs. This is much more secure, but also much less compatible.
There has been many problems with several firewalls (like Zone Alarm), but if you never had any problems or you're using Windows Firewall you can try it.
Problems may be encountered in form of partially rendered web pages or total HTTP traffic block (unable to browse any pages).
Very problematic programs are still automatically excluded by Alwil Software.
Recommended for advanced users.
Web Shield Power Mode is only supported under Windows 2000/XP using transparent mode (without browser proxy settings).
(default and recommended is unchecked)
3. avast! iAVS Interval Tweak
Please note that missing avast! iAVS Interval Tweak in AEC 1.6.291 is now available in avast! 4.6.691 itself! (Program Settings...\Update (Basic)\Details)
4. External VPS Updater
This feature updates avast! antivirus externally.
It will take you directly to official avast! page to download stand-alone VPS update package.
5. External On-Demand Scanner
This function provides On-Demand external command for ashQuick component.
With this function you can scan:
+ Single file
+ Single directory
+ Entire drive
+ Only startup files
+ Physical memory (Normal and Thorough scan mode)
This is module is just a graphic interface for ashQuick commands and is not a standalone antivirus scanner!
6. File Comparison
This will compare two files by CRC32 values which are unique for each file.
Chance of getting the same CRC32 value on two different files is extremely small so its a very reliable method.
Matching status report contains Size, version and CRC32 comparison plus lots of other file info.
Text on results page can be copied so you can paste it anywhere you like/need.
NOTE:
Checksuming (CRC32) large files may take longer then small ones (logical doh )
7. Advanced File Remove
This function gives you ability to delete files that are currently in use or locked by system. Useful to remove codecs (auto unregister) and even worms and trojans.
WARNING
Make sure you select the correct file since process cannot be aborted once its scheduled!
8. Schedule Boot-time Scan
With this function you can eliminate virtually any virus no matter how deep it has dig itself into the system.
It comes in handy when some virus prevents avast! Antivirus from being executed to scan for viruses.
Boot-Time scan will be scheduled externally, so there is currently no virus that could prevent Boot-Scan from executing on next system boot. After Boot-Time Scan has cleaned viruses you'll probably be able to run normal avast! Antivirus interface to check system again if everything has been cleaned.
9. avast! Uninstall Utility
Sometimes it´s not possible to uninstall avast! standard way - using
ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS control panel. In that case you can use this Uninstall Utility.
Please note that this utility DOES NOT reset the trial period!
10. Change avast! Database Storage Method
Please note that missing Change avast! Database Storage Method in AEC 1.6.291 is now available in avast! 4.6.691 itself! (Program settings...\Troubleshooting)
11. Visit Security-Ops webpage
This function sends you to www.security-ops.eu.tt webpage.
Its always launched in Internet Explorer(even if its not your primary browser) since majority of on-line scanners require ActiveX.
12. Restore default avast! Settings
This restore option is the safest and easiest way to restore all changes made by avast! External Control to their default values.
13. Smart AutoUpdate Proxy Settings
Here you can insert proxy info so you can update AEC through your existing proxy.
14. avast! External Control Smart AutoUpdate
This feature was developed extra for v1.0 of AEC and provides fast update service.
Update server (SiOL) is fast and reliable so i don't expect there will be any problems during update process.
