audio drivers cant be installed

a friend of mine has a prob like this...

his sys mechanic formatted c drive and reinstalled win xp. during install the audio drivers cud nt be installed. so is that a m/b prob :?:
in that case, if it appears 2 b a m/b prob then instead of servicin it, if he buys a sound card can he overcome the problem?... (coz his m/b ll hav 2 sent 2 bangalore for servicing that ll take quite a lot of time)

As far as i know there should not be any problems in installing the audio drivers as according to your statement it was working previously ( I am assuming). The service personnel has not used the correct drivers.

Give more details about the mobo as what chipset, processor, OS version etc.

also try to install win 98 and its drivers. if it works then mobo is good.
i assume u donot have important data on c drive, so it can be formatted.
