Are win32parite and win32pate.b viruses?

I firstinstalled Norton Antivirus,then uninstalled it to installMcafee Antivirus Pro. and then uninstalled it to install Avast frre edition on Windows XP SP2 and AVG 6.0 on Windows 98.They told that win32parite and win32pate.b are viruses but when they remove the viruses,Windows takes more than 1 minute to shut down and some applications proclaim that they are not win32 applications after removing pate.b .Also, they found win32pate.b in Dr. DivX ,Winamp,Windows XP Language interface pack and win32parite was found in almost all files by Avast.All the antiviruses except Mcafee asked what to do but Mcafee removed those viruses,which added to my problems.I think that these files are needed by Windows.Please help me.

Win32 Parite aka Pinfi is really a bad virus .. It infects the executables and most of them are corrupted when you clean them ...

You can use the Removal Tools to remove them but Ill recommend you to reinstall your Windows installation ..

both are different names used for the same virus.
suggest you download BitDefender Anti-Virus from www.bitdefender.com update it and run a scan in the SAFE MODE.

I have suffered the same way pal....my suggestion would be to reinstall the OS...
