Are these temperatures OK??

Hi guyz,

I bought a new Q6600 SLACR. Have motherboard Asus X38 Maximus Formula and 2 GB ram with gfx HD3870X2.

My queries are as following :-

1) Hardware monitor in bios showing CPU idle temp at 28 C and max. goes to
35 C. But mobo temperature is 40 C. North Bridge 45 C. South Bridge 44 C.
Now I havent seen that proccy temperature is less than system
temperature. Is this ok? (Asus Ai suite 2 and Pc Probe 2 also showing
same temperatures hence I guess Asus made some decent improvements
in these softwares as previous versions had lot of difference in temp
readings from Bios).

P.S. :- I previously had TAT, CPUZ and Orthos but now none of them as
everything formatted.

2) My DRAM reference voltage is 1.20 Volt and DRAM voltage is 2.22 volt. I
am getting warning message from PC Probe II about this voltage. Is the
voltage ok?

3) My Quad Core Vcore voltage is 1.30 volt. I didnt oc my proccy. It is taken
by default. Is it ok?

4) Which software to get for all informations regarding gfx card
(temperature, clock speeds, fan speeds etc) ?

Temps look great. Mobo temps are usually higher than the cpu.

Check your ram's default vdimm and set it to the same in the BIOS.

Vcore is fine. For default speeds you can lower it further. Have seen overclocked Q6600 @ 3-3.2GHz with 1.3v.

ur vdimm val depends on wat ram chips ur using.hav u set the vdimm val of 2.22v urself manually?

at stock u can lower ur Quad's vcore to 1.22-1.25v.

35 C. -------------> This is wrong, IF you are on stock cooler.Check temps with coretemp.

But mobo temperature is 40 C. North Bridge 45 C. South Bridge 44 C.-----> Sounds good, nothing wrong here

voltage ok? ------> The message is because of 2.2V VDIMM, manually set it to 1.8-1.9V for balue sticks. What RAM are you using btw ?

4) Which software to get for all informations regarding gfx card
(temperature, clock speeds, fan speeds etc) ?-------> ATI Tool, Everest.

Oh I forgot to mention my ram.

Its Corsair Dominator PC 8500 C5D 1066 MHZ.

I dont use stock cooler. I have ZALMAN CNPS 9700 as my CPU cooler.

Now say, are the temps ok?

All the settings are by default. I did not change anything.

8500C5D has rated vdimm of 2.2 so its normal.
Can you tell me what revision is your 8500C5D ?

If you are using a third party cooler then temps are ok.

Temps are obviously going to be good with a better cooler, what kinda question is that ? how are we supposed to know whether you are using a better cooler if you didnt mention ?

When you are aware that the cooler is better and you are supposed to get good temps and also, the CPU is actively cooled while your chipset/PWN is passively cooled with heatpipes.
With custom cooling, even those temps will drop.

With all due respect, i seriously dont get it, why was such a question asked ?

I asked this not becoz I was worried about my CPU temps. I asked as in my previous setup, my cpu temps always reached 55 C at stock and mobo temp at 45-48 C.
Now I didnt know that CPU temp is normally less than mobo temps. So was worried as Quads generate more heat and I thought Bios reading is showing something wrong. I burnt my previous GPU and didnt wanna take rick this time.
For anything I hv done wrong, I am really sorry

No need to apologize and all, chill dude

Let me address your issues,

1) G0 Quads run much much cooler than B3
2) That Zalman 9700 is a massive cooler with heatpipes and a bigger fan,compare it with stock cooler, you will get the answer for reduced temperatures.
3) chipset temperature being more than CPU is a common thing, current chipsets are more complex, they are passively cooled whereas CPU is actively cooled and newer generation cpus have thermal throttling technologies to save power and reduce temps. Even new GPUs do that, not sure if chipsets are capable of doing that.
4) Quads are power hungry but at stock things are pretty ok, bump the voltage and clock it higher and see what happens

Interesting thing to note,
Even under DICE, i fill the pot ~ till half with pelets, and forget about it when benching with Dual Cores.
Situation changes drastically with Quads, When 3DMark is running and Quad is at around 4.4GHz, it eats up the pelets like there is no tomorrow
To put things more simply,
DICE needed for Dual Core 45nm to complete 10 Super Pi run @ 5.2GHz = Max 1-1.5 Kg
DICE needed for Quad Core 65nm to complete 2-3 3DMark runs @ 4.4GHz = 4-5 Kg

This is only when they are clocked higher, things are under control at stock
