Apple just can't make anyone happy any more. Forget the idea that the Mac Faithful might be all excited that Apple just doubled the storage capacity of its iPhone and iPod Touch -- albeit for an extra $100. Instead of cheering, user forums are full of whiny moaners who think Apple is out to screw them.

The positive and negative backlash was almost instantaneous. I wrote up a news item concerning the new, higher-capacity iPhone this morning, and within minutes several readers posted comments. One commenter put it aptly:

Apple thinks we are all sheep. After spending 400-1200 bucks for an iPhone, iPod, iBook, or whatever Apple makes, a few months later they come out with a different color, more memory or storage or make it a little more pretty and all of us run and get the new stuff....

I guess [what] I am tying to say is bah bah bah bah...baaahhh..bah bah bah bah bah.

Now where is my Credit Card, Steve Jobs called.

Why hasn't more of a fuss been made over the fact that the iPhone has Bluetooth built in but you can't stream music to BT headphones? Does anyone in the tech media establishment think it is STUPID that Apple sells a very elegant and sleek BT headset which is UNUSABLE because I have earbuds in my ears? Does the design king who hates buttons really love wires? Oh right, I might want to let a hot chick listen to an earbud while we're sharing a seat on the subway. In my opinion, Jobs has jumped the shark.

HA HA HA HA.....Apple is so busted!!!!!

That's how the market economy works, AFAICR.

So according to the people who are complaining, once a product is released, there should be no updates for it for the next 1-2 years ?

I have Products from Sony, Compaq etc. These companies too release new ones and reduce the prices too often. Heck, even Nokia does the same.
Now where's each's discussion board. I wanna start whining.

Apple allows you to return the phone you bought for no extra fee in that case, provided that you shell out hundred more dollars for the new one.

agreed but what im saying is rather than nuking the customer with a new version let us know about it; whats the harm in that
Do you think you will buy the phone if you knew an update was coming in a month? It isn't exactly the wisest business move to announce product updates before you're ready to ship them. And Jobs isn't stupid. (Can't say the same about you though.)

Here's what SteveJack had to say about these people who are whining about the new iPhone and iPod touch models (it wasn't an upgrade in the first place, mind you):
To those of you new to Apple products: welcome!

Now quit your whining!

Whatever you buy today will be eclipsed by a model with better specs soon.

Get used to it.

That Mac or iPod or iPhone you just bought will someday soon sell for less.

Apple doesn't stand still for anyone; and certainly not just so you'll feel better about your purchase for longer.

If you don't like it, head on over to Dell where I'm fairly certain you can still spec out boxes with 3.5" floppy drives.
Couldn't have said it better myself. 8)

updates will be made no doubt who says updates wont be made who says a new peice wont elcipse the other 1 and why wouldnt people wait for a month for an updated version if they know its coming dont make dumb statements man. its not wise to make product update news before ur ready to ship them u bet it isnt and then postpone updates of apple tv  dude think twice before u speak ur a mac blogger now u should know whats happening in ur teeny weeny mac world

jobs being stupid he proved by announcing the tv updates and then delaying them  and give me a break all tech companies announce updates or newer version before they hit the market didnt steve jobs announce apple tv updates before shipping them; didnt he announce the polluted air before they hit the market shelves  o mac boy think twice remember i got my eyes on the mac world as closely ;)

Oh my God, you are so freaking stupid! :!:

Announcing a free software update isn't going to hurt sales. Anyone who buys the device now will be able to get that software update. They also announced a price cut and that was effective immediately because no one would buy the Apple TV if they knew the price would be cut in a fortnight.

The MacBook Air is a new product. You won't wait for the MacBook Air if you were planning to purchase the MacBook (Pro) because you're not its target audience. You would, however, stall your purchase if you were in the market for an ultra-portable and were choosing some other company's product because Apple did not have anything to offer.

Apple never announces future updates to its products that might hamper sales of existing products and that makes sense. Isn't it extremely clear! I still can't believe the sheer level of stupidity that goes around in these debates. Didn't you guys ever go to school!

and blah blah announcing a new product - its fair to announce it
announcing a newer version (mind u its not an upgrade) - its not wise for business

and announcing and then postponing isnt that what u said:
It isn't exactly the wisest business move to announce product updates before you're ready to ship them.
coming to the next part:
Do you think you will buy the phone if you knew an update was coming in a month? I

the phone and air are both products 1 being a fone and the other a notebook doesnt mean that 1 can announce a notebook 2 weeks before shipping and cannot announce a newer version 2 weeks before shipping

now let me re-phrase ur own quote to change the mac book air to a cell phone

The 16gb iphone is a new product. You won't wait for the 16gb iphone if you were planning to purchase the nokia 1100 because you're not its target audience. You would, however, stall your purchase if you were in the market for a show-off cell phone and were choosing some other company's product because Apple did not have anything to offer. (* other fones have expandable memory and therefore apple does not have anything in that category but a bigger space negates and equates)

Apple never announces future updates to its products that might hamper sales of existing products and that makes sense
what was apple tv :?: they announced it and then they postponed updates how wise of jobs
