Alternate SMPS smoked

Was testing a friend's system with p4 2.4ghz 745 socket with intel board having 1gb ddr ram on 1 slot & the other remaining slot empty. It was running on some cheap smps. Other hardware connected was an lg dvd writer, fdd, 2X 40gb ide hdd's, cabin fan.
The system was said to be restarting or hanging at times. So i disconnected all hardware & reconnected it back, even removed & reinserted ram after cleaning it. Then started the system. It ran well for about 30mins after which it restarted. It was runnning WinXp Pro btw. So i thought it might be a faulty SMPS & replaced it with my spare 300w VIP smps. After all cables were connected i turned back ON the power with UPS & hit the power switch on the system after which there was a small cloud of smoke from my smps, so i immediately turned it OFF. Sensing something wrong i tried back the old smps & this time i only got the green light on the motherboard. No power to hdd, writer, processor fan, cabin fan, nothing..........
I tried shorting the green & black pins on my VIP smps with safety pin to check if smps was working & i got another small cloud & no working fan but a slight buzz like the ones capacitor's make everytime i put it ON.

Some help please...............
what might be wrong???
has my SMPS blown the whole system? :(

BMG ftw!!
You have blown your PSU. Don't know what happened to other components, but test the rig with some other PSU to see if its still working or not.

thats for sure that i have blown my alternate VIP 300w smps. knew it to be working the last time i used it on my pc, had only changed to a higher 400W smps cos i was putting an agp card & a few other extra hw on my pc.

i checked the 1gb ddr which was on the pc when the smps blew with a couple of ram testing software which is found on hiren's boot cd & it failed all tests & showed errors. (checked ram on another working pc)

tried to use his previous smps which used to reboot pc in a while & only the lil green light on the motherboard showed up. shud i use another ram, smps & chek again?

can ram be repaired by replacing the faulty chips or something?

& is it possible for a bad smps to blow the motherboard, processor & ram aswell?
