Budapest (Hungary) - You wouldn’t expect the country of Hungary to be an automotive powerhouse, but it strongly desires to be the green car capital of the world. By 2012 Antro Solo want to produce a solar, human and gas-electric hybrid vehicle that drives more than 150 miles per gallon of gas. The Antro Solo is not only the most fuel efficient vehicle currently thought of, but will also be extremely affordable, costing consumers around $20,000.

The Antro Solo is a gas-electric hybrid with a carbon fiber chassis that seats three. The graphic designers chose carbon fiber to produce a vehicle that is lightweight and quick. The Antro Solo weighs less than 600lbs and it is the weight of the vehicle that allows for such amazing fuel efficiency; better yet the car reaches a pretty impressive top speed of almost 90mph.

To make the vehicle even more efficient, the designers installed solar panels on the roof of the vehicle. The solar panels charge the vehicle’s batteries for short trips ranging between 10-15 miles. In the event that the sun is not shining enough to power the vehicle batteries, each passenger’s seat comes with pedals that will power the cars generator. If you are alone, or none of your passengers want to pedal the car is capable of switching to its small combustion engine that has the ability to run on either ethanol or petrol.

The vehicle is set to go into production in 2012; its prototype was on display at the Budapest Museum of Transport.
For those wondering how much a Gallon is, here is the info:
1 Gallon = 3.785411784 / 4.40488377086 Litres (U.S.)
1 Gallon = 4.54609 Litres (U.K.)

150 Miles = 241.35 KM. That translates to giving a mileage of around 54 KM/Litre. Not bad.

^^I agree..I had the same initial reaction..This car does look ugly! But looks are a matter of personal taste, so its ok! However, I am eagerly awaiting the Japanese company to commercialize their car that runs on water! That would be uber cool :)

btw, this thing runs on "solar, human and gas-electric"! Other two are fine, but HUMAN ? Does it mean pedals and all ? Or human gas ? :p you gotta be kidding :p
