1. Is it a myth that core i3 can't run windows xp.. I mean to install only windows xp.. I'm more comfortable with it.. I heard somewhere that core i3 doesn't...
I can suggest you three things-
1. Update your graphics driver
2. Try using a different or less system hungry operating system
3. Also do check your line voltage regulation since the display showed the same problem again after repair. That may be the real cause.

i have the same configuration and using avast for more than 2 years and it runs fine. hardcore pen-drive exchange is also my hobby :-) be brave, avast is enough
if it does not work the GUI way i know the terminal commands but first u must get hold of the ethernet cable that comes with that device... i use the same device

i use ubuntu, and the bsnl dataone broadband works fine
all u have to do is
goto terminal > type "sudo pppoeconf"
then follow the instructions, and you will access the net
