@zbuu, yes you can. Enable internet sharing in the laptop and use a crossed network cable to connect the laptop and the desktop.

No, the Z5500 doesn't need a dolby/DTS decoding sound card. It has its own decoder and it can take in Coaxial/Optical inputs. All you need will be a mobo/soundcard with 5.1 or optical/SPDIF out
I guess they are coaxial cables and not cat5. There are replacement antennas that come with cable, but not sure if their length would suit your needs. Also what made you go in search of longer cables ? If it was just for the range get a high gain replacement antenna.

My router's power adapter. Didn't notice that it was a 110V one and plugged it directly into the outlet. But no fire/smoke/burning smell. Is still looks new, but doesn't work :-(
