is it possible to post a sound clip? it could be a normal noise. does the actual speed of scanning slow down if you're doing other tasks? or does the scan speed stay the same, just with the added noise?

the files are all still there if you havn't formatted it. There are several freeware recovery tools available online...

a pentium M has higher IPC (instructions per clock) effiency than a pentium 4, and a shorter pipeline. For integer apps, a 1.3ghz pentium M would be just as fast as a 2.4ghz p4. Its floating point performance is significantly lower though.

1. Depends on the use. Intel has hyperthreading which makes a noticeable difference when multitasking. A64s have higher FPU performance, so they slam the prescotts in gaming.

the driver page is reading the chip info/capabilities from the graphics card, which causes it to blink while it tests the card for an instant. the same thing happens when you're setting up your 3d card for use in a game. its perfectly normal.
download and run spybot s&d and adaware, and remove anything they find. also install the motherboard chipset drivers from the motherboard cd, and enable DMA on the cd drive.
