Get the SR850, The best you can get under 3K.

In a good audio system always neutrality,clarity & transparency is a must. Upto 5K, it's advised to go for F&D. A110, A520, A521 models are very good. They are linear, but sub-woofer is very powerful, if the whole system is tuned properly.

Ofcourse you can get a budget system in that price. Which car you have? I suggest Get 2 pairs of 6" Sony Xplod That would cost around 1700 per pair. Get a basic Class D USB Audio Player, like DAPIC, that costs just 2000/-. Buy everything online, save more.

Mate, Buy AKG Q701 or K702: 180$ - 220$, nothing can beat these, even till 500$. :cool_NF: Great for monitoring.

I own HD681: You MUST mod them, otherwise the treble will kill your your ears. SR850 is an excellent choice: go for it. Better than my HD681

Are you looking at clarity or just bass? Open or closed? OVer ear or On ear? specify.

Mate, go for F&D again. A521 is superb. Very reliable, it has earthing point in its circuit + 4 inch satellites = awesome soundstage.

When under budget, also go for F& value for money. A5000U is an affordable option.

Hey mate, I suggest you buy F&D R30BT: a little over budget, but they are awesome.

Get Headphones. You are right, earphones get lost or broken, since they are fragile. Since you are visiting U.S: Get AKG Q701 180$. Unbelievable soundstage & clarity. But you will need headphone amplifier. Or Get K612, 140$, within budget, does not need amp but slightly lower sound quality.

Get S0 from Brainwavz, it is sometimes for sale for 25$.

Soldering is mandatory for cable repairs. Without soldering, nothing can be done. Suggest you to buy new.
