In task manager, check which process is consuming too many resources
Try uninstalling a few things, software.
Keep only one antivirus AVG or threatfire, the two will not work well together (may be thats the reason of sluggishness !!)

Search that website homepage (be careful) say title bars or side bars, u will surely find password displayed somewhere on the site itself.

For shutting down on power failure u definitely need UPS.
As far as restarting when power comes back, it depends on your BIOS check if it has option to Switch on on power resume.
Do u have UPS, if positive u can configure it from Power Options in Control Panel to suite your needs !!
Check if your BIOS has options to switch ON with alarm
Also you can try modem triggered switch ON if u have always on connection !!

Guys this one's new to me!!
On my friend's PC, we formatted XP from C drive (FAT 32) using the bootable CD.
The booting part of setup went well, drive was formatted to NTFS and setup files were copied.
Problem started when setup restarted. It went to stage "Installing devices" and posed...
goto recording control settings from
Run -> sndvol32
check which devices have been selected
select only microphone
also check advanced settings
If this doesnt work try updating your sound card drivers
Hav u installed any new media player or rec. s/w?
