first install video and sound drivers for your PC... get them from the website of your motherboard manufacturer.. then install driver for your firewire card.. after this windows movie maker should work :)

even if you somehow make it work.. how will the person viewing TV on laptop change the channels ??? better to get a USB tv tuner for laptop IMHO

if the data is really important you can take help of professional data recovery services.. there are many in delhi if you are around... but beware it costs a LOT for these kind of services.. alternatively you can get another HDD of EXACT same make and model and swap their logic cards yourself...
