the pc hangs[totally unresponsive]...not even CTRL + ALT + DEL works .I have tried disabling the firewall and still it happens. Its not a virus .I wonder is it due to my dial up connection? Anyone with dial up experiencing similar problem?

I have heard if u fill the scratches with some substance, the cd may work. read somewhere u can fill the scratches with hair gel or something, then gently remove the gel by keeping it under flowing water. I have never tried it but worth a try since u have tried everything else.

I am using Windows XP SP2 with dial up connection. whenever I try to upload any file [file size>30 to 40 KB] ,to any site,the PC hangs. What could be the reason? Its not because of any particular browser. I have tried with different browsers.
