You can use yum in fedora and there is a package manager that can be found in the menu.

Just curious, Any of you have problems with flash in Arch Linux ? I find flash a bit choppy only on Arch but html5 works great. I checked on the irc and many of them seemed to have this problem as well and wanted to me tell them if I found a solution.
I could even suggest Absolute Linux. Its based on slackware. Once you setup the system with all the applications I think it should be a breeze after that.
It could be some piece of hardware that its not capable of detecting or configuring. Does ubuntu 10.04 boot on your laptop ? Just curious since Mint is based on Ubuntu.

You can skip creating a swap partition. If you always feel the need you can create a page file and do swapon. But I would recommend having atleast 256Mb of swap. The general rule is 2x ram size but I would say unless you are doing some heavy stuff, 256 megs will be enough.
