You can invest in shares of foreign companies by investing in mutual funds that invest in mutual funds of that country also known as fund of funds. There are various mutual fund schemes that exist in India that invest in countries like USA, Japan, Brazil, etc. If you want to invest in usa you can look at schemes like Franklin Feeder US Opportunities Fund, ICICI US Bluechip equity fund, etc (just an example, not a recommendation)

Why do you want to invest in US companies when you can invest here itself?Commission charges will be high(someone posted ICICI charges $15 per transaction) & profit may be much lower than expectations. Better invest here only instead of taking risk overseas.

ROI is way better+risk is less. Downfalls are the charges and a reliable middleman.

Have you calculated ROI?If it was so better don't you think every MF house was providing an overseas investment account(somebody said kotak even stopped giving such new accounts).

Yes, calculated as per NYSE. It's more complicated than that. It will includes paperwork with IRS (American IT department) and requirement of a PAN like number from IRS among other things.

Calculating as per NYSE is only applicable if you are directly investing in equities there which is not possible for a regular Indian citizen(i read some comments that suggests banks only offer this facility to select individuals). If you invest via MFs that invest in US markets then return will be obviously lower than return in individual shares just like in India.
