The nights might be dark and full of terror, but this particular night on the 24th of May has brought us our first proper trailer for the highly anticipated seventh season of Game of Thrones. And we just can’t keep calm! The trailer promises to make good on a lot of our earlier assumptions which, if you missed, can be found here. Without any further ado, here is the trailer:
Game of Thrones Season 7 Trailer Highlights
The Great war is finally happening and the trailer wastes no time in letting you know about it, with Cersei contemplating the enemies from all directions. If you had any doubts that it’s happening, check out this amazing shot of Cersei standing on a giant map of Westeros, facing the north.
The enemies she is talking about are, respectively
- East – Daenerys and the Dothraki
- West – Greyjoys
- South – Dorne
- North – Starks and the rest of the North (and unknown to her, the Whitewalkers)
Pretty soon, we start getting montage shots of armies marching and preparing – starting off with the Lannisters – indicating the coming war that everyone is preparing for. This is soon followed by a blink and miss shot of Drogon, Viserion and Rhaegal – enough to let you know that these little boys are geared up for war as well. And guess who is at Dragonstone?
Daenerys makes landfall on Westeros and understandably it is a touching moment – quite literally.
Her army of unsullied wastes no time in mowing down what looks like a handful of Lannister soldiers to put her on the throne at Dragonstone.
In the next few clips, we see the various children of Winterfell (actually one Stark, one Snow, and one Greyjoy) contemplating what the coming war holds for them. Littlefinger hasn’t stopped chasing Sansa, even after their particularly heated confrontation last season.
Melisandre beside the sea – does she join forces with Daenerys after being banished by Jon last season? Thanks to previous leaks, we know that she is looking at Ser Davos walking with Tyrion. Does this mean that Jon is also at Dragonstone?
We get our first real glimpse of Arya somewhere in the woods of the north, hopefully finding her way to her brother Jon.
Beyond this point – we get lectured on Peace 101 by Ser Davos Seaworth while we watch a gritty montage of Dothrakis, Wildlings, and Unsullied – all doing exactly the opposite of keeping the peace. Nobody listens to Ser Davos it seems. Here’s a look at the what seems to be the Dothraki making quick work of the Lannister army.
Could Jon be running from the Whitewalkers again?
A lot of interesting hookups – Greyworm finally seems to be getting some action
And with this one, it’s clear that Yara Greyjoy and Ellaria Sand agree about a lot of things!
And we end it with this epic shot that speaks for itself.
So we can safely assume that Game of Thrones Season 7 is going to be packed with war, hookups and plot twists – pretty much everything you expected, to begin with. Just don’t make the mistake of having any character favourites – but you probably already knew that. All that is left to do now is to wait for July 16th, which is but a long walk away.
