Up your emoji game with these emoji apps and tricks

We all use emoji or emoticons to spice up our chat – adding some visual appeal and a dash of colour to our chats. There are a few more things you can do to up your emoji game.

Changing the skin tone of your emoji every time

Most of you might already know about this but when you use an emoji for the first time it prompts you to choose a skin tone for it. Once selected, that emoji continues to use that skin tone every time it’s used without prompting you. However, if you do want to change its skin tone (whatever be your reasons), all you need to do is tap and hold the emoji icon to reveal the choices again.

Emoji stories

Ever seen those posts on social media where people tell entire stories with just emojis? Seems like too much of a hassle doesn’t it? Connecting all those emoji together and hunting for just the right emoji to get your message across. Turns out, it’s not hard at all. All you need to do is download KeyMoji and you’ll be sending emoji stories in no time. Though, it might not be as effective if the receiver doesn’t know too much about emojis.

Hidden iPhone emoji keyboard

Did you know there’s a hidden emoji keyboard on your iPhone which you probably didn’t know about? It’s called the Kaomoji keyboard and it’s got a lot of interesting text based emoticons. Haven’t heard of it? Oh well. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

To enable the hidden keyboard:

  • Go to the Settings app
  • Tap General
  • Go down to Keyboard
  • Tap Keyboards (found at the top of the screen)
  • Add new keyboard…
  • From the list, choose Japanese and Kana

And you’re good to go! Just switch to the keyboard as you would between any other keyboards on the iOS and enjoy your new emojis.

Stickers for WhatsApp

Stickers are a great way to further enhance your chat experience and as such there are several sticker apps you can use for the various popular chat apps out there. WhatsApp unfortunately, doesn’t support or have stickers of its own, but you can use images and short video clips as a substitute. Or just get an app! The Stickers for WhatsApp app is a great app for creating stickers for just about any chat platform. Like the name suggests, it’s targeted at WhatsApp users who want to use stickers. There’s a large selection of stickers and customisation options for all your sticker needs.

Stickers for iOS and Windows

ChatStickerz is a similar app but just for iOS and Windows. ChatStickerz lets you create custom stickers using the templates already available on the app. You can add text, change the background, colour, and more. Unfortunately, there’s a price tag on each sticker pack, with the lowest being $1.

Make your own stickers

Another cool app you can use for stickers is the Bobble Keyboard app, it comes with a whole host of customisation features and options like different fonts, speech to text, multiple languages, etc. Using Bobble, you can even convert your selfies into stickers! The app lets you put your selfies into stickers and gifs and customise it to your heart’s content. It’s available for both iOS and Android.

Still not satisfied? Haven’t found the right sticker? Think maybe you can make your own stickers? Many chat apps like LINE, and even iMessage now, have a sticker marketplace. If you have the knowhow to make your own stickers, you can actually upload them (after going through due processes of course) and even make some money off of them!
