Josh Brolin to play Cable in Deadpool 2

The race to be cast as the time travelling soldier ‘Cable’ in Deadpool 2 has finally come to an end and Fox has chosen surprise contender Josh Brolin.

There was quite a list of actors shortlisted for the role of Cable, including Michael Shannon (who was considered the top contender until now), Pierce Brosnan and Stranger Things’ star David harbour.

However, the casting of Josh Brolin as Cable has quite a few Marvel fans confused. The reason? Josh Brolin also plays the role of Thanos in Marvel’s cinematic universe. We don’t really have to worry about Cable and Thanos ever meeting in the cinematic universe (yet). While Deadpool and the X-men exist in Fox’s universe, the Avengers belong to Marvel’s Universe. He definitely fits the role, at least according to us. But we get why some fans might question casting Brolin. Even Ryan Reynolds (sort of) agrees with us there.

Josh Brolin now has two Marvel characters under his belt and has even played a DC hero. Most might not remember but he starred as Jonah Hex in a DC movie as well, a cowboy hero.

We first see Cable in the March 1990 issue of The New Mutants. Cable, whose real name is Nathan Summers, is the son of Scott Summers, X-Men’s Cyclops, who was sent into the future as an infant. He is often paired with Deadpool in the comics and the two of them even had their own 50-issue comic series. Cable is often described as the complete opposite of Deadpool, someone who is a born leader and used to giving orders. How he and Deadpool get along, we don’t know.

There is also talk that Brolin has signed a four-film deal with Fox, suggesting that there might be more Deadpool movies or even X-Men movies in the future with Cable making an appearance.

Deadpool 2 is bringing in a lot of characters from Deadpool’s side of the comics, Zazie Beetz has already been confirmed as Domino, and Brianna Hildebrand will be back as the Negasonic Teenage Warhead.

No release date has been confirmed yet for Deadpool 2.
