April Fool’s Day 2017: The fake yet truly funny stuff

It’s that time of the year again, and you already know better than to trust anything published on April 1. However, it’s rarely about getting fooled anymore, especially for the readers of this site, but it can be fun to partake in the hilarity of the day. Let’s look at our (constantly growing) list of favourite pranks.

H-Swipe – Honda’s in-car dating app

Harnessing the millennial obsession with dating apps, Honda’s prank involves a detailed announcement about H-Swipe, its in-car dating app to find love at the wheel. According to the description, the app shows potential matches near you, while you’re driving, on your digital windscreen. You can swipe these matches right or left with innovative digital s-wipers. Unfortunately, all we have as a demo is this image:

Vortex\Hornady Bullet Cam

Vortex Optics is an American company developing optics whose products include binoculars, spotting scopes, riflescopes, and other optical equipment. So when they came out with a bullet cam, some people really did take them seriously. Check out the super serious demo right here:

Google

Every year, Google pulls of a host of pranks from various services and regions on this very day. To cover all of them in this list would be rather unfair to other companies and their pranks. From turning Google Maps to a Ms Pac Man game to the Google Gnome, Google continues to surprise us, albeit with repeats. Check out the Google Gnome demo below:

Reddit Place

Reddit has come up with another social experiment this year, after last year’s Button. This year, it’s called Place. It is a canvas. You can place a pixel on it. And wait for five minutes. You get where we are heading with this? The internet gets an empty canvas – the results, of course, weren’t disappointing at all.

Yo Stories

Do you remember Yo? The perfectly useless social media app that just lets you send a Yo to your friends? They’ve announced Stories too – obviously as a jibe towards the social media frenzy over ‘Stories’. Check out the official blog on Medium.

These were the funniest and most unique pranks that we came across, but we will keep the list updated. Stay tuned!
