Hi Guys, I was planning to replace my 14 yr old Unicorn with a new bike in comming 2 months. I am 5.6" (just to give you idea, dont suggest too high bike) and I dont want RE :)

I have shortlisted these 3 bikes
1. Gixxer SF SP
2. Yamaha FZS 2.0
3 Honda Hornet CBS

200cc bikes are out of my budget, didnt like avenger like seating.

Any suggestions??

Q1 - does the gixxer's pilion seat very high, consider someone sitting in saree on it.
Q2 - Will the handling be good if I get bike with faring like gixxer sf
q3 - I heard there are very few service centers for fuel injector bikes and only yamaha showroom will help for FZS FI
q4 - does the faring get discolor in sunlight .
q5 - is gixxer taller then unicorn or shorter.

A- it is a little high. if u get a leg stand(or whatever its called) thenit wil be okay.
Q2 - Will the handling be good if I get bike with faring like gixxer sf
A- not a problem once u get used to it.
q3 - I heard there are very few service centers for fuel injector bikes and only yamaha showroom will help for FZS FI
sorry, I cant answer this as I don't own FI
q4 - does the faring get discolor in sunlight .
I have normal gixxer(from the first batch :p) and it has not faed at all. (I got it Teflon treatment two times in two years)

q5 - is gixxer taller then unicorn or shorter.
for rider, gixxer is infact shorter bike compared to some others.

Go for normal gixxer if u are hesitant for fairing , its Suzuki at its best..still love my gixxer after 2 yrs and engine still sounds the same

IMO, go for Hornet 160r. Since you will also need a good pillion seat and comfort so it's pretty good in those aspects.
Suzuki Gixxer is no doubt an excellent bike, even better than FZ... but a tad bit tall, expensive and more into racing factor.

but technically hornet is taller then Gixxer and fzs ...specification wise I am syaing...My unicorn had 18inch tyre which made taller then others..but now I see all bikes have 17inch tyres so I was expecting the height to be lower then before.

I would suggest you to take a test ride of Gixxer SF DD. It's an awesome bike, probably the best in it's segment from pretty much every aspect.
If the ride height is fine, then go for it by all means.

I tested Gixxer yesterday, But I am soo disappointed :(
Gixxer SF dont have a leg guard, I didnt know that faring bikes dont have leg guards. My unicorn have fallen soo many times and I got scratchless coz of leg guard. now if Gixxer SF falls down its faring will broke for sure.
Also Gixxer have only one liver for gear change...why not 2..it becomes soo comfortable.

Next I will check Hornet ...lets see how it goes.

Did u check Gixxer? (not sf) u can install leg-guard in that. And u will get used to one liver gear system in a day or two and its better now.

I have a gixxer so I can give you a review on it.

Cons:
Seat is very bad and not comfortable for long rides. You better get a cushion on it.
Pillion seat is not comfortable comapred to FZ. I should it say it is bad.
Tyres don't have proper traction especially MRF rear. I've enquired about this with other riders also. Heavy offroading is doable but risky with these tyres.
shaky in cross winds.
Mine is from first batch and had some paint peeling issues on some parts which Suzuki replaced for free.

Pros:
Both naked and SF look better than other two.(subjective)
Nice looking exhaust.
Butter smooth engine.
Reliable. Never had any mechanical problems in past 2 years. Self start always works on first press even after not using for weeks.
Spares are not costly.
Very good for highway rides. You will feel confident even at full throttle.

thanks Digital Fragger

I just loved Gixxer SF for its styling. but as I am a married man now, I have to think about pillion seat, saree guard, leg guard n all :( I checked Hornet day before and it fits in most requirements perfectly. Gixxer feel a bit more youthful i will say :)

Just coz faring bikes dont have leg guard i am not getting Gixxer SF SP else i am drooled :)

This one criteria should strike out all the three models you have narrowed down. Only commuterish looking bike would check this box, something like Uni 160.

You sure??? My impression is that Hornet is not comfortable when pillion is side saddling esp. when wearing saree. When you go for test ride, take your wifey too.

Stylish and comfortable pillion seat don't go together or atleast that's the case for most of the bikes. Anyhow you have two months to decide, keep scouting.

Do let her know that Avenger's pillion seat is too narrow ,and very uncomfortable.
It's very comfortable for rider, but for pillion it's vice versa.

And apparently, that's a bike meant for highways and long rides. For City rides the handling and turning radius will be a bit tough task, at least in Metros.

I liked Yamaha FZ25 ;) I will check see if it fits my requirements. Its seat is also very flat and they have optimised the bike for touring.
