Confused between External HDDs. pls suggest one

I want to buy a new 1TB External HDD . I also need Shock proof and water proof features. My budget is below 5000 .

The Transcend StoreJet 25M3 2.5-inch 1TB Portable External Hard Drive price is Rs.4,845 but it is shock-resistant (MIL-STD-810G 516.5) .

I confused .

If I pay an extra 400 rupees , I can buy Thosiba 2TB drive. Because Transcend 25M3 is just 1TB.

Is this shockproof really works .. How much shock it able to withstand ?

How much shock and water will you throw on the hdd? Get a normal hdd with a cover/case if you need.

As a longterm user of external HDD's at both home and office, let me inform you that *no* hdd , even if it says shock proof, will withstand a serious fall or knock without damage or dying altogether. However, the shock proof advertised stuff usually withstands casual/unintentional falls off a table etc from a small height (say 3ft) -*with the caveat while its not in use*. It will also withstand the rough and tumble in a backpack much better.

However, If it is dropped while in use, all bets are off....

There are actual rugged external drives which withstand a lot more than casual tumbles... google for "IoSafe Solo Pro" if you need to know more.

(Disclaimer: The one mentioned above is professional equipment, vastly expensive and maybe off topic also. Look into it only if interested. Also I'm not connected or affiliated with IoSafe in any way.)

Instead of wasting extra money on "shockproof/waterproof hdd" backup your important data by buying subscription of google drive or amazon drive after buying a good normal portable hdd(either seagate or WD,forget about the rest).

Is infibeam is good place to purchase ?

The cost of Transcend StoreJet 25M3 2.5-inch 1TB in infibeam is only Rs.4,379 from a seller Orient Enterprises ( Transcend StoreJet 2 TB Hard Disk (TS2TSJ25M3) )

But in Amazon , flipkart it is Rs.4,800 and Rs.4,900 ... that is 500 Rs costlier then infibeam

I read in internet that infibeam cannot be trusted and very low reviews on review sites. What can I do ?

I only buy from Cloudtail(Amazon's own selling medium) on Amazon.Also for your information,all portable hdd are made by only 2 companies:Seagate & WD,all other brands like Transcend,HP,Lenovo,Adata etc simply put the hdd made by seagate or WD into their branded casings.WD after sales support is best in India & their portable hdd are also considered best by many.

Currently you can get a 15% cashback on Amazon(valid till 12th aug,cashback will be credited on 12th nov) using sbi debit/credit card & buying using amazon app(using amazon website will give 10% discount).

There is no shockproof hdd in reality,all this is just marketing gimmick.HDD is the most delicate equipment among all pc parts & if you do drop it then rest is all your luck.Instead of spending extra on shockproof hdd,buy a normal hdd & treat it with care & backup important data on another hdd/cloud service like google drive or amazon drive.However if you still want to buy shockproof hdd then go ahead as it is your money so your choice.The price is alright for such hdd & no there are no "shockproof hdd" from seagate or WD below or above 5500 for any capacity as these are the only 2 companies making portable hdd they know better than to advertise any of their product as "shockproof".

If you arr so concerned about shockproof then why don't you put your HDD in an otterbox or something?

But in youtube videos they are thowing it from head height , kicking it like a ball and it is still working .. I watched many videos in youtube ..

(both TRANSCEND STOREJET 25H3 and Transcend StoreJet 25M3 2.5-inch 1TB are same except latter in usb 3.0)

I don't trust youtube videos just like that.The fact is that HDD is a delicate piece of instrument & laws of physics apply everywhere in same manner.If Transcend HDDs are so tough they would be selling like hot cakes(or iphones) which they are not.A 1TB portable 2.5" hdd cost around 3600 so ask yourself this,how much tougher can they make a case costing ~1000.Yes,chances of it surviving a few falls from a height of 1m is more than normal hdd when hdd is off but if you drop it while it is on then most likely there are no chances.
